## What it is
A finite battery. X charges, spend one per use, regains some number at dawn or
under a condition. **The most common magic item shape in 5e** and the easiest to
balance, because the ceiling is arithmetic.

## Provenance — the transposition key
Charge items are almost always **made deliberately, by someone, for a purpose.**
Who built it and what they built it for is the whole transposition — a healing
staff cut by temple wrights becomes a very different object in a campaign with no
temples.

## Dial
Down: fewer charges, or recovery only on a rare condition. Up: more charges, or
it recharges by being used *for its purpose*.

## Watch for
Players hoard charges and never spend them. If it recovers at dawn, say so out
loud — unspoken recovery gets treated as a one-shot.
